In winter, the surrounding area is full of mountain activities! Just nearby, enjoy the friendly and authentic family ski resort of Camurac, or the Nordic area of Col de Chioula, ideal for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Downhill skiing enthusiasts will appreciate Ax 3 Domaines and Grandvalira in Andorra, with their vast ski areas. And to mix things up, try sledding or an unforgettable ride on a dog sled in the Pyrenees!
Generous nature
Come and admire the changing colors of nature, where each season offers its own unique atmosphere. The region is also home to many animal species, some of which are endemic to the Pyrenees. You’ll also find numerous gorges, such as the impressive Gorges de la Frau, as well as remarkable natural caves well worth a visit. You may already know the Niaux Cave or the Lombrives Cave. The Cathar country
It is undeniable that the Cathars had a profound impact on this mountainous region. This “heretical” religion developed here into a true popular culture. The many castles, such as Montségur and Puilaurens, bear witness to this past and provided refuge during their persecutions. And above all, there is Montaillou: our small village, known worldwide as one of the last strongholds and iconic sites of the Cathars.
Lively culture
Visit one of the many remnants of ancient castles, such as Puivert, Roquefixade, or Lagarde. You can also explore historic centers like Mirepoix, Foix, and Carcassonne. Don’t miss the lively local markets with their regional and artisanal specialties. Good to know: Occitanie is the largest wine region in France. Finally, just an hour’s drive away, enjoy duty-free shopping at Pas de la Casa in Andorra!

Meet the animals at La Maison des Loups, explore the prehistoric world in dinosaur parks, or discover the daily life of our ancestors at the Parc de Préhistoire, the Forges de Pyrène, and in the medieval setting of Château Chalabre. There are simply too many activities to list!
